A PORTABLE COAL LOADER
In many parts of the world a great deal of manual labour is expended In such work as piling coal at depots and stacking goods in large stores. Ircquentlv the operations are so intermittant that it would not pay to install elaborate and permanent cranes and other conveying appliances. I 1 or such eases the light conveyor recently introduced bv a British firm is admirably suited 'lt is a portable conveyor with one end carrying n castor resting on the ground and the other slung between the uprights supported upon a light twowheeled carriage. The upper end can be raised or lowered to suit the level to which the material is to be raised. By moving tho conveyor round ils lower end a very largo area can be stacked froin a single point; and by moving itj sideways and loading it from vehicles there is really no limit to the ar-en v, Inch can be covered. This conveyor,. which can be driven either by on electric motor or a petrol engine, is made in several sizes, ranging from 15 to 51 foot tn length. A similar appliance is made for conveying on tho level.
