DUNEDIN. Arrived—Kakapo (10.35 a.m.) from Timaru; Wanaka (2.40 p.m.) from Auckland. TOFUA ARRIVES. The R.M.S. Tofua arrived shortly before six o’clock yesterday morning from San Francisco, via Papeete and Rarotonga, and berthed at the Lambton Wharf shortly after 9.30. After leaving San Franc’sco on December 16 the Tofua ran into strong north-easterly winds, heavy rain squalls, and rough seas. Papeete was reached at 4.30 p.m. on December 29, and the voyage was resumed at 5.30 p.m. the following day. The unfavourable weather conditions contfnued, and when tho vessel arrived at Rarotonga shortly before midnight on New Year’s Day the elements were still unfavourable. Owing to the conditions prevailing no fruit was loaded, and on January 3 the vessel resumed her trip. Moderate weather was encountered during the remainder of the voyage. The Tofua brought the following saloon passengers:—Misses Aguilar, Arthur, Shirley, Baker, Badland (2), Palmer, Weil, Wheeler (2); Mesdauies Aguilar, Asher, Brown, Chcll, Coyle and infant, Harris. Abbey, Jones, M’Donald. Nicoll, Patrick and boy, Swinnock, Simmons, Walpole, Wacher, Weil, Wheeler; Messrs Ballantyne, Asher, Cohen. Oox, Chcll, Coyle. Fowler, Pison, Harris, Abbey, Jones. Lock, M Donald, Murdoch. Nicoll, Patrick, Swinnock, Simmonds, Walpole, Wacher, Rev. Cresswell; also 27 steerage. The cargo brought to Wellington by tho Tofua includes the following lines:—3o tons canned fruit, 5 tons dried fruits, 85 tons fresh fruit. 12 tons cotton, 130 tons roof material, 52 tons motor and materials, 102 tons hardware, 545 tons oil, 34 tons paints, 91 tons sugar of milk, and a quantity of general cargo. The Union Company announces that the Tofua will not return to San Francisco, but will sail on Friday for Sydney. MAIMOA’S OFFICERS. Captain F, Green, who was in command <lf the Matatua on the trip before last, is in charge of the new steamer Maimoa at present, and has with him tho following officers:—Chief, C. Wood; second, H. Hempieman; third, R. Vandewood; chief engineer, J. G. Ferguson; second, 11. Randle; third, J. J. Houghton; fourth, A. Crumbly; refrigerating engineer, It. Loftus; wireless, J. Cunningham and C. Booth; chief steward, O. W. Beckley. The vessel carries a company of 87 all told, all of whom arc Britishers. From Lyttelton the Malmoa goes to Dunedin, Adelaide, and Melbourne. ARAWA’S MOVEMENTS. The S.S. and A. liner Arawa is to leave here for Napier and Timaru on January 18 to commence loading operations. She is due back here on January 27. and will sail at daylight on February 4 for Southampton and London. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. D. Jeffrey has joined the Rosamond as purser. Captain W. B. Burgess, surveyor of ships, has taken temporary command of the Tutanekai from Captain post. Mr. B. N. Gow hin signed on tho Rosa-

mond as second engineer, vice Mr. H. A. M’Gregor.

TAP-AWERA FROM SYDNEY. Tho Union Company hopes to dispatch the Tarawera from Sydney to-morrow for Wellington, via southern ports. She should arrive here about January 21. WAIKOUAITI AT AUCKLAND. The Federal Line advise that tho Walkouaiti arrived at Auckland yesterday, but will not bo able to berth until tomorrow, owing to the congested state of the wharves. In consequence the vessel will not be down here until about January 24. NOTHUMBERLAND FROM NEW YORK. The Northumberland left New York on December 31 end Newport News cm January 7 far Auckland, Wcllington, Sydney and Brisbane. She is due at Auckland on February 2 and here five days later. THE SOMERSET The New .Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Somerset is to leave Melbourne on 'Janjiary 14 for Timaru, Lyttelton and Wellington, to load for Homo. She is due here on February 3 and sails on February 6 for London. HORQRATA’S LOADING PORTS. Tho Hororata is to leave Newcastle on January 18 for Brisbane. She will then come to Auckland, Wanganui and Wellington to load for Home. The following steamers were expected to be within range of the undermentioned wireless stations last night: —Awanui— Trevalgan, Mararoa, Waikouaiti, Wandella, Rakanoa, Auckland—Devon, Waikouaiti, IVandeila, Rakanoa. Wellington— Maori, Wahine, Mapourika, Arahura, West Mahwah, Wangaratta, Tremeadow, Waitomo, Henrikland. Awarua—W’anaka, Xaranga. ChatJjams—Armagh, Pert Chalmers, Kaikoura, Paheka. Tho Alexander has been delayed in Nelson, where painting and cleaning operations are being carried out. She should be here on Sunday, and is to go on the patent slip the following day. Owing to tho "stop-work” meeting yesterday, the Waitomo was unable to leave for Newcastle, but is to sail at noun today. The Waitangi, >ue from Patea, has a shipment of cheese for transhipment to the Arawa. The Ripple is due to-day from Napier and the Mako from the same port tomorrow. Ono of the vessels will go on to Picton, but it has not yet been decided which. Tim departure of tho Talune for Rarotonga and Papeete has been postponed until Friday. The Stella should arrive here from Dunedin about Saturday, and will sail for Lyttelton on Tuesday. She is bringing a full load of general cargo, and will return with general cargo. The Durham is to leave Newcastle tomorrow for Wellington to commence Homeward loading. The Flora is due to-morrow from Onehunga and is to sail about Saturday for New Plymouth. The Kanna will now cull at Napier on her trip from Auckland, arriving here on Sunday. She will sail for Lyttelton and Dunedin the following day. The Katoa will not arrive from Lyttelton until to-morrow, and in consequence her departure for Auckland has been postponed until Friday. The barque Kona was towed to the stream yesterday by the tugs Karaka and Pelican, and if tho wind is favourable to-day will put to sea for Newcastle. The Kittawa, due on Friday with a shipment of coal, will sail for Lyttelton on Saturday. The Tutanekai is to sail to-day for Westport, and from there she will visit the outlying islands.
