MEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE

Mr A. J. Crombie presided oyer -he weridy meeting of the Executive Committee of the Wellington Cricket AssociaHon hdd last evening There were present Messrs. B. L. Salmon C. R. Ed mond, W. G. Hughes, R. J. Murphy, and R. S. Johnston . The secretary read a telegram from he Auckland Cricket Association oongrati lating Wellington on its victory in the Plunket Shield, match. It was decided to telegraph the Auckland Association asking if a match tm juniors could be arranged for January 29 and 31. ' The Canterbury Association wrote su„gesting that Easter Saturday end Monday would be suitable dates for te junior representative match, as tho.e dates would be less likely to interfere with the Canterbury Cup matches It was also mentioned in the letter that in View of the heavy local programme and the Australians' tour, Canterbury would not be able to play a return match with Wellington. It was decided to ask the Canterbury Association to reconsider the matter and to send a team to Wellington should the Australian tour be abandoned owing to the stewards; strike. The New Zealand Cricket Council •wrote stating that it had teen decided that the Redpath Cup be awarded to the player of any major association who obtains the highest batting average in interprovincial and foreign matches, lhe player winning the trophy must play three innings and score at least 125 runs. The trophy is not to be won outright. The New Zealand Cricket Council wrote stating that the Horowhenua Cricket Association had applied for affiliation, and asking for the views of the Wellington Association. It was resolved to offer no objection to Horowhenua’S application. The secretary announced that about £7O had been received in subscriptions from honorary members. Mr. R. Johnston, manager of the team that visited Canterbury, .in his report cn the tour spoke in glowing terms ot the hospitality shown the Wellington players, who were a happy family on and off the field. Mr. W. G. Hughes, monnger of the team that toured Wairarapa, Manawatu, and Taranaki, also reported on the excellent behaviour of the team throughout the tour, and the very great kindness shown the players in all the towns visited. The managers, Messrs. R. Johnston and W. G. Hughes, were accorded a hearty vote of thanks for the work they had carried through in connection with the tours. Mr. Salmon reported that he had received a request from Mr. Jacobson for a visit of a Wellington team to Hawke's Bay. It was decided to accede to the request if possible. The New Zealand Council suggested that the Australian team should play a country team at Wellington, but it was decided not to accede to this, as it would not be convenient.
