AMERICA AND JAPAN
THE IMMIGRATION QUESTION SUSCEPTIBLE OF AMICABLE SETTLEMENT By Telegraph-Preo Association— Copyright (Rec. January 12, 0.10 a.m.) New York, January 10. Speaking at Cambridge, Massachusetts, Mr. Lamont, head of the American banking group of tho Chinese Consortium, sa?d that even tho perplexing Japanese immigration question was susceptible of amicable settlement if the Americans show a little tact and respect for Japanese susceptibilities. It would seem certain that with any ingenuity at all they should be able to devise a formula meeting tho views of California and a measure satisfying Japan. The American people had not an intelligent understanding of the Japanese. We are apt to condemn Japan, because the military party is powerful, whereas the people are as peace-loving as Americans. -Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. THE CALIFORNIAN LAW (Rec. January 12, 0.10 a.m.) New York, January 10. Tho Californian Legislature has adopted unanimously a resolution asking that no treaty bo made with Japan granting citizenship to Japanese or nullifying the provisions of tho anti-Japanese law.— Aus.-N.Z.
