AN ENVOY FROM IRELAND PASSENGER BY MAKURA When the R.M.S. Makura arrived in. Auckland from Vancouver on Thursday last the police boarded the steamer and served a notice under section 5 of the Undesirable Immigrants’ Exclusion Act, 1919, on a saloon passenger, who was bound for Sydney, prohibiting his landing in New Zealfind. Under ordinary circumstances the passenger in question would have been permittee! to land, but it is stated that inquiries elicited the information that during the voyage of the Makura from Vancouver he exhibited in the course of some conversation with some of the passengers papers which showed him to be connected with the Irish Diplomatic Mission. It is ■ understood that seven of the passengers of the steamer complained to the police about the attitude of the man concerning his mission.
