ANNIVERSARY DAY REGATTA
PREPARATIONS BEING .MADE. Preparations are now being made for the Anniversary Day regatta on January 22. Since 1841—the anniversary of the arrival of the first Settlers —the regatta has not been omitted in any year. This year a programing of sailing races for all sorts of craft has been arranged, and a race for power-boats is also included. While the regatta will be managed by the Port Nicholson Yacht Club (as in former years), it will not be a club affair, entries will be. accepted from any craft that care to compete, and the donations of the citizens will be applied to tho regatta and its prizefund only. It has been the aim of the Regatta Committee to get a sufficient prize-fund to attract the fest whaling launches from the Sounds and Kaikoura, and if sufficient funds are received starters ifiay be secured from there. The prizes, however, will need to bo substantial on account of tho great cost of operating these boats at high rjeed. Wellington possesses a, yachting fleet of which any port might be proud, nnd most of them will be competing ou Anniversary Dav.
