On Friday next entries close for the Taranaki, Egmont, Gisborne, and Dunedin meetings. Acceptances for the first day’s handicaps at the Wellington Meeting are due on Friday next at 9 p.m. The annual race meeting of the Wairoa Jockey Club will be held to-day and on Thursday next. R. J. Mason, who has been on a fewdays’ visit to Riccartcn, returned to Trentham on Sunday.

The Racing Commission ■will meet at Wellington to-day, and after the arranging of preliminaries the commission will start on a tour of the whole of the racecourses in the Dominion.

Eight yearlings from the Waikanpe stud are to 'be sold in Wellington on January 21. The youngsters are by Wartian and Boniform, and are highly spoken of. The Otaki trainer F. Higgott won four of the six flat events with his tepm at Reefton on Friday last. A special feature of the racing of the southern holiday meetings was the form shown by Mazama, who won' a race on each of the five days. He will have to compete in open company in future, but he looks quite equal to earning a lot more distinction. Sasanof is a most noteworthy nomination for the. Takapuna Cup. The Melbourne Cup winner is also in the Rotorua. Cup, in which Mr. Wynyard has weighted him at list. Foo Chow was the most unlucky performer who raced at the southern holiday fixtures. He finished second each day of the Dunedin Jockey Club’s Meeting and repeated the performance each dav at Invercargill. The unbeaten two-year-old Mermin has won .£3990 in stakes to. date, and as he has further valuable engagements ahead he will no doubt add to his total. So far Mermin has won more money them anv other two-year-old that has raced in the Dominion. Desert Gold, with .£3650, was the nearest to Mermin’s total. Though Mermin heads the list of the two-year-old clan in the Dominion from a stake-earning point of vision, he is a long way behind the Australian record for a two-vear-old, which is held by Thrice, who in the 1916-17 season won four races of the value of .£8972, but it must be borne in mind that the stakes for the babies on the other side of tne Tasman Sea are of a much greater value than is the case here. Last season, in Australia, Glenacre topped the poll of victorious juveniles with <£4204, the result of four wins. Amongst the winners at the recent Kaikoura R.C.’s Meeting was Glenlee, whose preparation for the fixture appears to have been of a varied nature. According to a writer in the Kaikoura Star” a few weeks ago, Glenlee was deliberately let out of the paddock and chased towards Hapuku. Fne or - davs before the races he was lamed, and in the small hours of the waning of the races his training was fewinterfered with by some persons h; inding the horse Several bundles of green - • Despite these set-backs, Glenlee double, which must have proved costly for the culprits. Tp Hallowell and Thea (Demosthenes Te Hou Hou) have been turned out on Mr. M-ManawU’s farm at Rat- The ground was too hard for them at Marton The following nominations ha e received for the Pahiatua Handicap at the Pahiatua Racing Club’s Meeting on Jiiuarv 29Nobleman, Galore, Bonn.
