I John Ambulance and Bri»ndo represcnta-. ! tives was held in Wellington, on' i Tueisday to discuss matters concerning ■ the future work of the two bodies in New Zealand. Luke and "W. H. S. Sloorhouse,' : tho Hon. Dr. W. E. Collins, C.M.G., andMr. T. Young, representing the Rod. Cross Society, and Messrs. Tunks (Auckv land), Seed (Wellington), and C. J. Dr,i \ Collins, chairman of the New Zealand} •• Executive, who stated that it_ was mossj desirable that the two societies. should l j continue to work togothor as they had; done during the war, and ho. referred] • to the agreement which had been made' j in Sjeptensbcr, 1919, between the Grand' Priory of tlio Order of tho Hospital of St. John in England, and tho British. Red Cress Society, under which joint. ] committees havo been set up to, inter' ! alia, control and direct tho work and objects whother within or beyond the United Kingdom) of tho order and society respectively, and to promoto, 60 far as ■practicable wilhin tho (means Tri its power, tho improvement of health, tho' prevention of disease, and the mitigation of suffering throughout tho world.' : whether In p&nce or war. Ho suggested that a joint committee, representative j of the two bodies in New Zealand, beset up. It was not tho desire of the! Red Cross people to intorfcro with the work St. John's was already doing, ; but his suggestion, if carried out, would i enable both bodies to work together in.- ] [face time as tlioy had dono during ' the war, and so prevent overlapping, i Mr. Young thought the English _ agreement should bo adopted, and it was j finally resolved,. on the motion of the Hon. Dr. Collins, seconded by Mr. Tunks,. that in the opinion of those present the ngroement made in September, 1919, be- : twoen tho British Red Cross Society and tho Order of St. John should ■'become the basis of a working agreement Tor carrying on tho objects of the two bodies in liow Zealand for the future, and that J tho four centres of each organisation ba nsked to approve. : It was also decided to suggest (hat the 1 control of the aflairs of the two bodies be in tho hands of a joint council, con- | eistinc of tho president of tho New Zea» | land Red Cross Executive, tho director ] of tho Ambulanco Department, of tho ; Order of St, John in Now Zealand, nnd one representative from each body in each contrc; also that there should be a committee of management nnd a' j Finance Committee.
