The rationing of gvus was continued in Masterton yesterday. Tea rooms depending on gaa for cooking were forced to close for part of the day and people living in houses where gas stovw only are installed wore driven to all sorts of expedients in the preparation of meals. Though lignite coal is not the ■best for gas making, a truck of this received at the gas works in tho morning was welcome, as it enabled tile holders to be filled with sufficient gas for the eve-iing requirements. Tho present pres. pects are bright as the gas manager (Mr. , J. W. 81/tckman) received news last night that two trucks of coal had been sent from Wellington at 9 p.m., and should arrive at the gas works this morning.
