SOCIAL AND PERSONAL A farewell tea was given on Saturday afternoon at the Pioneer Club, when Mosdamefi M'Gowan and Anderson invited about forty of Mrs. Goldsmith's friends to bid hfcr farewell., Musical items were given by Mesdames M'lCcnzio and Scarle, Misses Harper, Scarle, Campbell, and Joy. A competition was won by Mrs. Gillies. Mrs. Searle, on behalf of those pijesent, presented Mre, Goldsmith with a salad bowl. This will take place at tliei Returned Soldiers' Club, Lambton Quay, at 7.45 p.m., on Thursday. Interesting brief speeches will be given, bearing on the subject; a discussion will follow. Thfe Women's Association of St. John's Church intends making a still further effort in aid of mission work, which is sorely in need of funds, and to-day at 2 o'clock members will hold a jumble sale in St.- John's Hall, Dixon Street, when it is hoped to raise a substantial sum.

A concert in aid of the funds of tho W.N.R. Residential Nurttry is being organised by Sirs. Charles B. Shaw, with Sir Edward O. Gibbcs, lion, secretary, and will be held in t'.ne Concert Chamber of the Town Hall on Saturday evening next. The work of this nursery, winch has been a going concern at Owen Street for many months, is worthy of all help citizens can give. Mrs. Shaw, is giving this opportunity of help, and is offering a delightful evening's entertainment, in which Mr. Zante Wood will boar a considerable part, also Miss Isabel Miss Pauline Brown, tli,-.; "Melody lour, Mrs. Allwright, Miss Doris Webb, Miss Alice Gunn, Miss Rose Carte, and others. A meetilnu of the committee of the Anglican Boys' Homes Extension Fund was held in the Accountants Chamber yesterday afternoon to complete arrangements for the street eftort of October 1.
