A musical event of more than ordinary interest is announced by J. and N. Tait at the Town JJall on Wednesday and Thursday next, when Miss Van Stavercn will make ■ her first professional appearance in New Zealand in two operatic song recitals of great variety and wide range. Both New Zealand and Australia have produced many remarkable voices, and given great artists to the world, • but only a few of the singers have returned to their homeland, so Miss Van StaverenV brief visit offers musiclovers tho unusual opportunity of hearing a star of their own in thehoyday of her power. At Covent Garden Theatre, London, she was the first New Zealander to appear in grand opera, whicli is a great musical distinction. In Milan, at Dae Verne, and other Continental musical centres, Miss Van Slaveren has achieved marked success.
