The Hon. J. G. W. Ait ken. M.L.C., has left Wellington to spend a week with his sister in ths country, near Wenganiii. It is hoped that the change will benefit his low slate of health. A gathering of offers of the Department of Agriculture took place at the head offico yesterday to farewell Mr. A. Macpherson, Fields Instructor, Glinstchurch, who is retiring on superannuation. In the course 01 a short speech, tlio Director-General of Agriculture, Dr. C J Iteakes. mentioned tho effective service given by Mr. Macpherson in various capacities, includihg that 01 mnna„er of tho Deportment's exhibits at agricultural shows, and as mainly responsible for the succasMu] arrangement of the New Zealand display at tho ban Francisco Exhibition in 1915. On behalf of all present he wished Mr. Macphercnn all gpSd luck and happiness in the future. A presentation was mad* to r - Macpherson by his fellow officers at Christchmch on Saturday last. Mr. Albert Spencer, propi'lent of ttw Auckland Employers Associaten, ha been appointed to represent Auckland builders on the committee set up■ Uthat citv to deal with building permits under the regulations framed by the Board oT Tiade. Mr. Spencer is nt present spend int- a few days in Wellington, and. intends to leave for tho north on Friday. The death occurred at Petone on Mondav of Mr. J. Linehan, at the age of 7* years.. The late Mr. Linehan is survived by a grown-up family.
