A proclamation appears in the Gazette isauod laßt evening that the provisions of sub-section 2 of tection 1 of tlie Coinage Act, 1920 (Impcriiil), are adopted aa regards the Dominion of New Zealand. The Coinuge Act, 1920, amendß the law in respect to tho fmenesß of silver coins curTent in the United Kingdom, and in other partß of His MnJesty'B Dominions. Instead of the silver coins being "thirty-seven-fortieths fine piker, three-fortieths alloy; or millesimal fineness 925," the coina are now to he minted of "one-half line silver, one-half alloy ;or millesimal flnncss 500." This means tho debasement of the silver coinage, but silver is very much more costly now than it wis before the war, and tho actual value of the puro silver in a coin will rrobably be equal to the face value of the coin, that is to say. tho silver in a hUf-orown would ' probably be worth vrry nearly 2a. 6d. If the value of the silver is losn than this, 1 the mintß will make a profit out of tho silver coinage. The Coinage Act, 1920, or rather sub-section 2, does not apply to the Belf-governing diminiciiß, unle6a and until those provisions are adopted by proclamation. ' AUBTKALIAN riIODTJOB MARKETS.
