ROLL OF HONOUR

UNVEILED AT KILBIRNIE SCHO6L.

The mempry of those old pupils of Tfilbirnie School who served in the N.Z.E.F. has been perpetuated by the erection of a Roll of Honour at..the school, and this was unveiled yesterday afternoon by the Minister of Education (Hon. C. J. Parr). A. tablet containing the names of the fallen ex-soholars, which has been placed at the entrance to the school grounds, was also unveiled by the Minister, and Colonel G. Mitchell, M.P., unveiled a Roll of Ilononr'to the memory of.those members of the Kilbirnie and Hataitai Senior Cadets, who afterwards went to the front. There was a large attendance at. the coremony,. and the Kilbirnie and Hataitai Cadets, under Captain Nimmo, were on parade. Among those prepent weje the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), Dr. A. K. Newman, M.P., and Captain W. M. Bell (Officer Commanding No, 5 Group). Mr. Pttrr referred to tlio sacrifices made by those men of New Zealnad who fought in the late war, Tind said he hoped tho future generations 'would ever remember that New Zealand had .played her part noblv and well. Ho urged tti; young peoplo to remembor that the Dominion would go down in ruin if such a public spirit was created as would forget the men who died on Gallipoli and in France and Danders. Dr. Newman also spoke a few words, calling attention to the noble work that had been, done by the women and the nurses during the war. Colonel Mitchell said he had served with many of the men whose names were inscribed on the roll, and he knew their valour-and greatness. The men of the N.Z.E.F. were worthy of the race from which they sprnng. No praise was too high for tho nurses, who hr.d ctono devoted service amidst many dangers. Addressing hi.s remains to tho Smuoi fadets, Colonel Mitchell said, in conelusion, that he hoped tliey would never be hesitant in doing their duty in protecting the women and children of the country should the occasion ever arise when tliey would be called upon to do
