WAIRARAPA NOTES

The Hon. C. J. Parr, Minister of Edu- I cation, visited tho Carterton District. High School on Monday, and was met by members of the committee and District Progress League. The Mayor (Mr. W. Howard Booth) outlined the educational requirements of the town, whiich included a kitchen, lavatory, and laundry rooms at the new school. Two rooms at the old school required remodelling. A retiring room with conveniences for the lady teachers and girls of the higher classes were also needed. Plans for eonio of the work had been sent to the committee over twelve mopths ago, but nothing had since been done. Messrs. J. M. Nicholls (chairman of the committee) and J. A. Cowles (headmaster) stressed the importance of the requirements. The Minister stated that if all the requirements for education were conceded tho people must be prepared to pass an additional expenditure of 50 per cent. Urgent matters had to bo dealt with first.
