HAWKE'S BAY DEFEATS TAKANAKL

The representative football match between Taranaki and Hawko's Bay was played here to-day in the presence of 4000 spectators, and under ideal weather conditions. The ground'was in perfect order. The gam© was hard-fought, fast, and open, there being some tine bouts of back: play. The visiting backs wore nippier, and showed moro combination than the local learn, and to this they owo their victory, ns the Taranaki forwards more than held their own. In the first spell Batchelor scored for the visitors, ns the outcomo of a passing bout, whilst towards tho end of tho spr-11 Eobertson did likewise for Tnrnnaki. In the second spell King (Taranaki) and Northe (Hawke's Bay) scored from forward rushes, and O'Donnoghuo converted, the latter giving Hawko's Bay the victory by 8 points to <>• NEW ZEALAND TEAM AVELCOMED IN SYDNEY.
