RE MASON'S GARDENS
Sir,—Referring to a paragraph which appeared in The Dominion issue of July 20, dealing with, this question, in which it ia stated that "you have been informed that tho price of .£17,500 mentioned to the Hutt Borough Council was for seventy-one acres, and not for twenty five acres only," I beg to give tho following extract from' the agent's letter of July 1, ofFeriug tho property for sale to tho Lower Hurt Borough Council, viz.: *• "The property consißts of about twentyfivo acres, comprising what is known as Mason's Garden, and about forty-four acres between the gardens and the Hutt River, much of tho latter ia rich river flat, suitable for intensivo cultivation. The price asked is .£20,000 for the wholo or for tho garden's block." That was the offer submitted to the council on the occasion when the alleged Mayoral statements concerning the property were 6aid to have been made. On July 17 an amended offer* was received from the same agent quoting the whole Boventy-one acres at J>17,500, and the Mock known as "Mason's Gardens," approximately twenty-seven acres, at .£15,000. There has been no meeting of ths council since receipt of this letter.
