' Two Maori children, Talia Waikato, aged 13 months, and Kati Waikato, aged 8 years, were fatally burned in a whare (it Kerepehi, Hauvaki Plains. Pour children were in bed in a.whnro with a tin burning wood in the centre of the wliare. The mother had gono off to n store for candles, leaving a girl 12 years-of ago in charge. The latter fell asleep, and,the tin overturned, setting: fire to tho blankets. Tho girl rescued two of tho. children; the other two,received burns to which thev shortly succumbed.
