THE PLUNKET CONFERENCE

FURTHER REMITS DISCUSSED,

Tho conference of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and children was continued yesterday. Mis. W. F.- Massey being in the chair. A remit was brought forward by Mrs. Thoomin (Dunodin) to the effect that tho basis of the Central Council expenses should be defined and an indication given how these expenses wore s to be met, As a moatis of getting tho general opinion of delegates on this matter it was proposed that the balance-sheet (road by Mrs. Tbeomin) for the past year of tho Control Council bo received and adopted. Mrs. Theomin, Dr. Truby King,' and Mr. Young, M.P.. all epoko on the motion, and Mr. Young suggested that the.expenses of tho Central Council should be borno by the respective branches on' a pro-rata ba«is according to the number of nurses each 'branch employed. Mr, Young pointed out that tho expenses of the council had been mot during' the past years bv the Dunediu branch'entirely, save for a small contribution by two of tho other branches, and for the sake of self-respect ho thought 6uch a slate Of things should not bo allowed to continue. Mr. Young's proposal met with tho approval of tho meeting, and the balance-sheet of the Central Council was adopted; ' . Mrs n Hudson (Motueka) brought forward a remit: "That the branch of tho Plunket Society in Motueka take up work on tho lines of the Mothers' Help Division in Wellington." She had consulted with Mrs. l'orter and Mrs. Cole* ridge, of the AVomen's National Reserve Mothers' Help Division, as she had, not fished to clash with tho W.N.R., and they wero very sympathetic. Wherever there were no blanches of the W.N.R. in the small country districts she thought that this work might bo taken- N Up by the Plunket Society. Oho ( member suggested that , the W.N.R, should form branches whorevor they did not now exist, as she thought the' Plunket branches had quite enough to do. A Bub-committee, consisting of Mendames Bristed, C. Earle, Watson, • Herrick. Hudson, Bloomficld, and Dr. Xing, was set up to meet representatives of tho Mothers' Help Division, and import- ffl the conferenco later/ '.••'„• In view of tho fact that during the coming year five travelling. Plunket nurses will bo employed whose work'will principally be to relieve nurses on holiday. Mr. Young, M.P., brought forward tho following resolution:—"That this conference approves, of the proposal that tho salaries and all costs incidental to the maintenance of travelling Plunket nurses be undertaken by tho Central Council. andHhat the branches lie assessed for the cost of the 6aiuo on a prorata basis of the number of nurses employed.'—After discussion, the motion Was carried by 29 votes -to 1(5. Alterations; to the rules of tho society were made, and it Qvas resolved that 4ie society, be incorporated. The following remit from Waimato was passed :—"That this branch considers -he priCo of sugar of milk exorbitant, and detrimental to the society's work among I the poor. Wo hope for the co-opewition of the other branches in obtaining permission from the New Zealand bngar Milk Co.Xo retail sugar of milk at cost price." ■ . .
