SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Mombers of the Wellington Methodist Women's Auxiliary journc.vad to'Potono on Tuesday afternoon for their monthly meeting, which was held in the Pctone church. In-tho unavoidable'absence of the president (Mrs. Johnson Wright) through indisposition, Mrs. Pinfold occupied the chair, and led the meeting. Mrs. Rouse, fienr.. on behalf of tho Potone members, welcomed the visitors. After devotional exercises, an address on missionary work in India was given by tho Rflv. Mr- Caroy, who laboured for thirtyfive years in the mission field there. An interval inr afternoon tea; and a-solo by Miss Rouse, made up an enjoyable and instructive afternoon. Tho invitation of the Thomdon memoers to .hold the meeting in their district, wafl accepted. Messrs. Schneideman ■ and' Sons. held their annual social and. dance in tho Ponsonby Hall on.. Monday evening. / There were about fifty couples present. ; and a most enjoyable time was spent. 1 Musical items were contributed by .Alesdames Jackson, Archer, Misses Mouat, Josephs, and Mr. Montisino. The sup-per-room was prettily decorated with purple and gold, and tho tables wero ox- 1 cellently arranged by Mrs. Low and committee.' Mr. P. ScKneidoman.was called j upon to make a speech, and thanked all . the staff for making the evening such a success. Mr. Gill replied oil behalf o* ' staff. and thanked the Messrs. So'hncideraan for providing such a. splen- . did ovenirig for them. Mr, Goldblntt < officiated as M.C., and Mr. Smith was tho musician. ,
Household Orderlies. ■ A meeting of tho Household Orderlies' Association was told at the hostel, lvolburn,- yesterday' afternoon, Dr. Agnes Bennot't being in tho chair The work of the'matron and tho furnishing of the committee were seen to full advantage as tho hostel is now sufficiently in order to nccommodato the first orderlies, and also a small number of temporary boarders. Great improvements were also to w 6een in the garden, tho fare of -which has been undertaken by Mrs. Kirkcaldio. it was stated at tho meeting that the business of the incorporation of the society was verv nearly completed, • and • flt an early dato debentures would' be Med to raise tho required amount of £m for tho furnishing of tlie hostel. A sewing bee was arranged of wluCh Mrs. A. Craw.ford will ]>e -in charge. The thanks of the council wero expressed to Mrs, W. Ferguson for tho .loan of a 6ewing_ chine, and also to Mr. E. Salmond for a donation towards the, funds.
Reception at the Pioneer Club. Delegates to* the Plunket ■ confer6nco» which is being held in Wollington.at the present time, were the guests ot the Pioneer Club at a', reception .that waa held, there last evening. Lady btout, tho prcsidont, received, and at her request Dr. Truby King, who was present with Mrs. King,-talked voiy interestingly about matters relativo to child welfare and the nutritive values of fetain vegetable and animal foods.
