INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION

REPRESENTATION ON TECHNICAL SCHOOL BOARD. Mr. H. Mainland presided at the monthly meeting of the executive of tho Industrial Association last night. A letter was received from the director of the Technical School Board inviting tho association to nominate a monitor tor election to tho board. Mr. L. H. Partridge, who is a member of the Technical School Board, explumed that by an alteration of the Act the Industrial Association and tho School Committees Association had tho right of electing ono member. Previously the Industrial Association was bracketed with tho Architects' Association and the Academy of Fine Arts, but the two latter bodies stood down, and their pre-, sidents bought representation as tho nominees of the parents of the Technical school children, consequently tho Industrial Association secured direct representation. Now, however, if the School Committees'' Association voted for its nominee it was strong enough to elect him. He suggested that in view of the past support given by Hie Industrial Association to the Technical School and the support still being given, tho association should write to the Education Department protesting against tho injustice. Mr. H. F. Allen (the secretary) stated that lie had a letter written by Mr. A. D. Riley, the first director of the Technical School, in which ho had stated that by a donation of .£ISOO tho Industrial Association had saved the life of technical education. That donation secured a subsidy of like amount, and with the ,£320 tho board had in hand a wing was added to the school. Mr. Mien also drew attention to the very great assistance given by tho Industrial Association to the Technical School. It was decided to appoint a deputation consisting of' Messrs. H. Mainland, L. 0. Partridge, and C. Ward to wait upon tho Education Board and point out tho position. _ , The matter of nominating a. representative wns left to the Standing Committee.
