GRANTS FOR SCHOOL BUILDINGS
CABINET VOTES NEEDED FUNDS.
Tho Minister of Education (Mr. C. ,T. Parr) announced yesterday a number bf grants concerning the Wellington Educalion District. The Martinboreiigh School was burned down last year, and the Government has granted 4!15,002 for the rebuilding of the school in brick. An ■maount of J3MB iias been voted for tho reerection of tho school in brick at To Ore Ore. A grant bos b«'ii given for the purchase of a site for tho Newtown West School. Tho jjeparHiient has decided to abandon the old Newtown School and tq erect in the place of it two schols—Newtown West uud Newtown East. The proposal of (lie Education Hoard was originally that the City Council should grant Kites on tho Town Holt, but this proposal Hie City Council negative,! A new siteis being secured at Newtown West, adjacent to thu Town Belt, and tho Government has mado a grant of -k?2ofi for the purchaso of the site. Pahnerston is in need of a new hostel for pupils attending tho High School. A grant of J!10,0flS for a hostel to replace the old building, which now accommodates tho principal of the school and some forty pupils, has been approved by Cabinet.
