AUCKLAND TEACHERS
. 9 CONDEMNATION IN OTAGO. By Telegraph-Press Association. \ Dunedin, July U. At a meeting of the Olago brand) of the New Zealand Educational Institute Ihe following ' resolution was passed :— "That the branch regies that the Auckland branch, in opposition to the institute's lonjr-ostablislicd policy of an undivided service (enjoying under n uniform Dominion system c<(ual rights and opportunities, but no sectional pnuleges) should proceed to ionn a _Eopuraia association, basing Hie step on the uuworthy plea that teachers in tho district have peculiar needs not in common with teacher.? in other dis.ricts. Tho institute'has always represented a national spirit in education as opposed to lnero pnrochinlisni, and its efforts to remove district barriers lo promotion by means of a grading scheme have- formed a eoiisisreni p::rt of., us programme. T'lio forming of a separate absociation is a virtual assertion of the opposite policy, and is particularly unfortunate nt tha present stage, when the institute's increased influence holds such good proimna in the immediate future for schools and teachers alike.".
