POLICE CASES. •> Mr. E. Page, S.M., presided at 'ho Magistrate's Court yesterday. Louisa Tierney, S3 years of age, was convicted' of insobriety. At her request a prohibition order was issued against her, to lie in force for a period of twelve months. On a charge of loitering in Clyde Quay for immoral purposes, Tierney was convicted and ordered lo como up for sentence when called upon within 12 months, For insobriety, Char'.cs Slytes, Frederick Marriott, and William M'Carthy, each of whom had one previous eenriction, were fined 10s., with the option of 13 hours' imprisonment. • Archibald M'Naughton was fined lfls„ with the alternative of 48 hours' imprisonment, for insobriety. For committing a breach of his prohibition order, lie was fined £2, in default 6even days' imprisonment.

Surrey, were charged with tho theft of lour, magnetos valued at iOO, the property of Ihe New Zealand and African Steam Ship Co. Tlicv were remanded to Wednesday on the application of Chief Detective Ward; Jose Mcndez, a Chilian, and a member of the crew of tho. American schooner William Burnhain, was charged with asfaulting .Tohn Nicoll, the second niato of the vessel. It appeared that the ollicer told the seaman, who was smoking in the 'forecastle, to get on with his work.
