Harris, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. M. Bawden-Harris, of Levin, and Mr. Kingston Hewitt, youngest son of tho late Mr. and Mrs. C. E. / Hewitt, of Kingston-on-Hull. England, stage director of the Allan AVilkic Company. After the performance of the company at Palmerston North Opera House on Wednesday evening the members of the company held a supper party in honour of the bride and bridegroom, who were the recipients of a presentation in the form of a travelling clock. Mr. Hewitt also received a diamond scarf pin from Mr. and Mrs. Allan Wilkie. At the monthly meeting of the Women's National Reserve Executive on Thursday afternoon leave of absence was granted to Mrs. Matthew Holmes, president of the Wellington Centre, who is leaving shortly for Fiji. Mrs. Tripp was elected acting president, Miss Ella Fair, assistant general secretary of the Y.W.C.A., is a passenger by the Moeraki for Australia. On her arrival in Sydney she will enter tho Y.W.C.A. Training School, under tho National Board of Australasia. After the course is finished she will study the work of associations in the other Australian centres, She purposes returning to Wellington in September. Mrs, and Miss Ronn • Carwell-Cooke (Wadestown)'left last evening on a visit to Sydney. Tine Y.W.C.A. service at Herbert Street to-morrow will be (he special Girls' Department service, when the Rev. G. W. Dent will give an address. Miss Terrisa will be the soloist, 'the service will ha followed by tea and socio!'hour. Tho Y.W.C.A. has lost a ••■cry hard-working member in Miss Bertinshaw.'who lately left Wellington for Invercnrgill. For some years past she acted as secretary to Everybody's Social Club, and was VKry successful in sustaining interest and r'nthusinsm in this branch of the association work. At a farewell evening she was warmly thanked for all her past efforts in the Y.W.C.A. cause, and satisfaction was expressed that she was not leaving the association altogether, but only transferring her activities to the branch in Invercnrgill. Miss Cameron was wel-' coined as her successor.

Citizens' Day Nurseries. A meeting of the Citizens' .Day Nurseries Committee was held in the Mayorera's room nt the Town Hall yesterday afternoon. In the. absence of the Mayoress, Mrs. Leicester was asked to tako the chair. Apologies were received from the Mayoress, Mrs. W. P. Massev, Mrs, D. Iticltliford, 1/idy Stout, Mrs! Clurkc, and Mrs. Crawford. Among the correspondence dealt with was a, letter from the Minister of Interna?. Affairs (the Hon. C. ,f. Anderson), stating that the application for a Government subsidy towards the day nurseries was under consideration,- also that in answer to Mr. G, 'M'itchcK's representa-tions-he was prepared to receive a personal explanation from delegates in regard to their request. The Minister stated an hour in which he would receive these delegates. The meeting decided to be represented by Mrs. A. Gray, Mrs. Firth, Miss Eotlicnberg, and Miss Wallace. Letters of sympathy with the object of thj committee, accompanied !•}• cheques for varying amounts, wore received from, the following :-Mrs. W. J. Gray, Kelburn, 2 guineas; Mrs. D. Ttiddiford, ,£10; Mrs. Len. Mackenzie, .£5. A letter- waa received from Messrs. Wright,. Stephenson, and Co. in which they forwarded n. chequo for .£229 to. 7d., tho result of Apple Day, together with the sum of £3 7s. sd. as interest. The meeting expressed very much gratitude for all that hod been done for them by tho firm, and considered that instead of receiving interest for the Apple Day results they should have been charged it, as Messrs.' Wright, Stephenson, and Co. had given them a- depot as well as clerical fid other help. It was decided to forward a letter of thanks to them for what they had done. A report was received from the subcommittee, in charge of entertainments. Miss Rothenbcrg (chairwoman) thanked those present for the help that had been received with the jumWc sale, and Mrs. Firth outlined the pesition in regard to entertainments. For the jnmßle sale an amount of ,£B2 15s. Id. (net) had been received, and thev were about to pay in to the Entertainment Fund about .£lO2, their first instalment. This included tho jumble sale and several cheques. Entertainments to come were outlined, and Mrs. Firth Announced that Mr. lifvrfe had agreed to '.et them have tV.c Opera Tloiuso free of charge for a dance recital to be givon 'by Miss Bocre for the benefit of llic Day Nurseries. Arrangements for Daffodil Day were also discussed. The Sailors' Friend Society. Tho seafarers in port on Thursday were tho guests of the Misses N. Wilson and Parkinson, who gave a delighfiiil concert to an appreciative audience. The performers wero the Misses M. Wilson, Irwin, Josephs, Evans. • Hawkes, and Wilson, Messrs. Claris, Maloney. Robinson, and Ritchie. Tho Misses Wilson. Josephs, nnd Ho«kins were at the piano. Mr Mooro (missioner) led tho competitions, which proved a strong feature of the programme. Mrs. Smith and Miss Wilson donated prizes, which wero wou by tho lonic and men in port.
