Ho 6aid it was unreasonable to expect Australia to assume this defence with her navy, without the help of the other Dominion's. Genoral Sir John Monash declared that tho Empire must have owly one.navy and one army, and each Dominion must bear its own 6hare of tho burden, The League of Nations was not going io prevent war, and it was necessary to be equipped. Had the Australians at Gallipoli had onetenth cf the equipment that his command in Prance had; they would havo m:.do short work of Turkey, and would have been in Constantinople in n month. lis hoped that -the pending proposals would provide that the future Australian army wcmf.d be adequately equipped.-Press i\ssn.
