NEW SOLICITOR-GENERAL
MR. W. C. MACGEEGOK, K.C. By Telecranh-Presß Aseoclation. Dunedin, .Tune 26. Mr. W. C. Macgregor, K.C, Crown Solicitor in Dunedin, has been offered and has accepted the Solicitor-Gen.'rai-ship, vacated by Sir John Salmond, who is now on the Supreme Court Bench. Mr. Macgregor leaves for Wellington in a few weeks. Mr. Macgregor has been for years the legal adviser of the Duuedin City Corporation, and has had an extensive p/aciice in the Supremo Court. Ho has teken a keen interest' in British Imperialism, and has lectured and.written on this and kindred subjeets. Mr. Macgregor si*nt his youth in Edinburgh, and won seholarship3 at the George Watson Institution there, but it was in Dunedin that l.e pursued his law studies snd qualified himself for the Bar. Mr. Macgregor is tho son of tho late liev. James Macgregor, D.D., of the Columba Presbyterian Church, Oaniaru, who formerly was Professor of Systematic Theology in the New College. Edinburgh, and the author of about half-a-score of theological and expository books. Owing to illhealth in his family, the fate Dr. Macgregor had to leave Edinburgh and seek tho more genial climate of Dunedin. It is a coincidence that Sir John is also tho son of a Presbyterian theological professor, for the Cnte Professor Salmond; of Dunedin, was for years Theological Professor there, and be accepted the Chair of Mental Science in the Otago University at tho request of the Presbyterian Church.
