MENTS. . 1 In the courso of> the annual report of the Wellington Education Board occurs the following reference .to:work done-arid future, requirements within the Wellingtion Education District:— . "The chief maintenance works 1 carried out include of 28 schools, 19 residences; hot-water-provided; in 8 residences; drainage,. shelter sheds, asphalt and ground improyemcr.ts at 20 schools. New schools 'were erected at Masterton West-'(S' rooms),- Wantwood ' (1- room), Ronga Valley (1 room), Normal, Kelburn (the iirst.part of the main block), additions were erected at Plimmerton (1 room), Ohau (1' room), Island Bay (1 room),- Berhampore Infants' (3-rooms), Lansdowne Infants'- (3 rooms),■ Waingawa (1 room), Khaudallah (1 room). , • "In regard, to'the Mar future/' the immediate necessities are:—(a) New schools or additions at Brooklyn; Miramar South,, Clyde Quay, Petone West, Mu.ritai, Jqhnsonville, Newlauds, Featherston, Manakau, Shannon; Cisllepolrit,. Levin (secondary), Eketahunar -Poroporo, -.-' reinstatement of buildings destroyed by fire. ; (b) The erection in tiie '(rowded and lbngoccupitd areas of the '.city, new nhools toropkee old ones. , Such are :-■(]) Newtown, with division into.two schools; (2) Mount Cook group, with consolidation; (3) Te Aro, first i.lock on Terrace Gaol site, '(c) Acquirement of-new sites and of addition-Ij. existing sites in populous and growing areas. "The board intend? to use every effort to raise tho standard of 'accommodation in the district, the need of increased expenditure for .which purpose' has recently lieen recognised in a financial provision made by Parliament."
