RETURN ITOR APRIL AND MAT. ■ The electric lighting figures for April and May were mado available yesterday, at tho conclusion of tho meeting of the Tramways and Lighting Committee of the City Council. The April return was as follow:—

He re- ■ niained at the Bay of Islands until his > regiment was withdrawn, but in 18GI took part, in (iio war in the .Taranaki district, and was also in the Waikato ' War from 1862 to 186-1. He afterwards 1 joined the Armed Constabulary Force, mid took part in tho war against Titikowaru in 1868-9. He was; one of the ; guard in oliaige of Maori prisoners confined in a 'hulk in Wellington Harbour. Tho prisoners afterwards escaped, and made their v/ay back to their own territory. The late Mr. Ellis romained with the constabulary for 6ome years, eventually resigning to settle in tho Manawatu district, where he had remained over since. He was the holder of a longsorvico Imperial pension, as well as the New Zealand military pension, instituted under tho Act of 1313. He was accorded a military funeral yesterday. The South Wairarana Sohool Committees' Association will he represented at the Dominion Conference, to be hold in Wellington next week, by the president (Mr. A, C. Holme), vice-president (Rev. It. A. Catherwood), and secretary (Mr. J. W. Henderson). Owing to illhealth the first-named has declined to contest tlio present Wairarapa ward election in connection with the Education Board.
