Mrs. Lawrence returned to Wellington yesterday from a visit to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gilford Moore, Palmcrston. North. Mr. and Mrs. Balo, who had heen visiting Mrs. Bale's parents, Mr. and Mrs. M'Hardy. at Palniorston North, returned to Wellington yesterday. A successful jumble salo was held in pit. Thomas's . Hull, Newtown, .yesterday afternoon in aid of the Kclburn Anglican vicarage fund. Whatever else may fail jumble sales hardly ever do, and from various quarters of the city bargain seekers were to lie seen striving to get the better of-the high cost of living. The articles for sale, were varied, and although many had seen service in some form or another they still offered promises of a useful career.

The marriage of Miss Beatrice Haggett, eldest daughter-of Mr. and Mrs. Haggett, to Mr. Frank A. Harper, third eon of Mr. and Mrs. Harper, of Hastings, took place at St. Peter's Church, Wellington, on Monday last, the officiating clergyman being Archdeacon Watson. The bride wore a frock of shell pink net over satin embroidered with pink silk rosebuds, and was given away by her father. Her veil wns worn over n coronet, of orange blossoms, and she carried a bouquet of pink and bronze chrysanthemums and autumn leaves tied with pale pink tulle. She was attended by two bridesmaids, Miss Rita Hodgins and Miss Muriel Haggett. Mr. Arthur Harper, brother of the bridegroom, acted as best man. After the ceremony a reception was held, when complimentary speeches were made by several of the guests and the usual toasts were honoured. The brides travelling costume was of Persian blue, relieved with silver, and she wore & stole, the gift of the bridegroom. Mr. and Mrs. Harper left by the evening train for Uotorua, 'where the honeymoon is; being spent. The third annual ball of the combined banks of Wellington is to be held in a few weeks' time. ■ , : I — ; —— Y.W.C.A. Motes. At'the representation of the Maori Lovo Legends, which will be given on Juno 22, at the Concert Chamber, the same setting of native bush, together with the handsome Maori mats which already have won so much admiration, will again bo used, 1 " and the legends will be enacted by the same performers. On Wednesday next, at the Y.W.C.A. in Boulcott Street, an afternoon is being arranged when each.friend is asked to bring along a book by 6ome standard author. Afternoon tea will be served, and a social time spent. The usual social at the Y.W.C.A. Club Room will be held to-night, when a hearty invitation is extended to all Y.W.C.A. members and their men friends. Miss Chatwin has arranged an excellent musical programme, and supper will bo served. The speaker at the service to be held at the Y.W.C.A. Clubroom in Herbert Street, at 4.15 to-morrow, will bo Mr. Paternoster. The series of health lectures will bo resumed at the Y.W.C.A. this winter, when talks on all matters pertaining to health are given by leading doctors. These addresses are open to the public, and all young women and girls are in-vited-to attend. . Those desiring to take the St ; John Ambulance course in home nursing,- to be started 60on at the Y.W.C.A.. aro advised to enrol at once,.as those directing are seeking to get the class started at once.

Mrs. G. E. Baiter and Miss Iris Baker, of Auckland, are spending a short holiday in Wdiinaton.

Nicols, late of Featherston, Turakina, and now of Palnierston North, wa6 married to Miss Phyllis Bruce, youngest daughter of the late J. D. Bruce and Mrs. Bruce, "Brooklands," Cheltenham. The bride wore a frock of pale mains georgette, draped over eatin, and a family veil of old Limerick lnce formed a mob cap, caught with orange blossoms. She carried a bouquet of palest pink cyclemen friesias and maidenhair fern. Mr. Henry Burrell, uncle of the bride, gave her away, and Miss Kathleen Pearce, of ■ Wanganui, was bridesmaid. Tho latter was dressed in a frock of powder blue georgette over lavender, with a butterfly bow of blue tulle and a picture hat of black. Her bouquet toned with her dress. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. Stanley Speedy (Dannevirke) as best man. The' church was prettily decorated by friends of the bride. After the coremony a reception was hold at "Brookland's." In the charming setting of tho did garden a marquee had been erected which was decorated with ferns and shrubs. Hero the brido and bridegroom welcomed their guests, while Crozier'a orchestra played delightful music. Mrs. J. Bruce (mother of the bride) was dressed in black satin over' wjaich she wor» a black sealskin coat. Mrs. W. Nicols (mother of the bridegroom) -wore a costume of black corded silk.
