WAIRARAPA From Our Special Correspondents. At a meeting of the Carterton School Committee it -was decided- to support the nomination of Mr. W. T. Grundy for a seat on the Wellington JEducation Board. The resignation of Mr. B. J. Chapman ns secretary, after twenty years' service, was received mid accepted with regret. It was decided 'to submit tho name of Rev. S. 11. Peryman to the board 1 aa Mr. Chapman's successor. The Carterton Borough Council on Tuesday evening held a special meeting to consider what 'fiction .the council should take regarding tho petition of several land owners to secede from the borough, on account of the system of rating on the unimproved value ibeing carried, in. place of the old system of rating on, tho capital value. A petition was before the council from the owners of four sections fronting Lincoln Bond, and running from Dalefield Bond to Brooklyn Eoad. Tho total area involved is 139 ncres, nnd the annual loss to the borough in rates would be .CM). The council wns unanimously of opinion that any secession must be opposed, nnd went into committee to discuss tho lines along which objections would be raised. The promised donations to the Carterton District Soldiers' Memorial now £3389 13s. U. In recognition of his very long service as chairman of the Maserton District High School Committee, Mr..Bic'hard Brown is to be niade tho recipient oi an address and presentation at an early date. The following have been appointed to mako the necessary arrangements: Messrs. A. Donald, A. Hendry, E. H, Waddington, H. Miller, B. E. Church, A. Pickering, J. B. Nicol, D. Threadwell, J. Cahrell, H. M. Boddmgton, W. H. Jackson, and A. W. G. Rollings. The following have been elected officials for the ensuing year of the Masterton Boxing Clnb:-Patron. Dr. P. B, Cook; president, Mr. A. P. Whatman; vice-presidents, Messrs. W. D. Watson and Walter Cameron; committee, Messrs. V. E Donald, D. Caselberg, G. W. Sellar. G. H. Perry, J. Cross, W. B. Cliennrlls. D. Is. Logan, and F. W. Rummer.. Tho Feotherston Borough Council has taken eteps in connection with directing attention to the matter of a district svar momori.il, and at n recent • public meeting it was decided that further contributions be collected towards the ereetion of a memorial to be erected near the Warra-rapa ■ Anzac Hall. Mr. W. E. Bidwill has obtained promised donations totalling over .£BSO for a memorial, and fully JJGOO will - able from the Wairarapa Anzac Club trustees for a monument to bo placed near the Anzac Hall. A' proposal to earmark onlv i)G00 for a monument nnd determine the form of memorial when the sum of X2OOO has been raised was defeated. Thus subscribers to the -memorial are definitely tied down to a certain form of war memorial. J • Messrs. Gawith and Logan, solicitors, Masterton, have taken into partnership Messrs. H. B. Biss, LL.B., nnd G. D. Wilson, M.A., who for some years have been' employed by the firm as managingclerks at Martin'borough nnd Masterton respectively. The new firm will 6till bo knosni as "Gawith nnd Logan."
