NEW COAL MINE AT DOBSON

Yesterday the visiting Parliamentarians attended _ the oUicial ■ opening of the new coal mine at Dobson, which is situated about five miles from Greymouth, alongside the main railway line. The visitors were welcomed by the. Mayor (Mr. Williams) and the Brunner councillors, and a large attendance of visitors. The machinery was set going, and the mine formally opened by Air. Lynch, who explained that the existence of a coal seam, twelve, feet six inches through, had been proved by a three-inch bore at 580 feet. The dip was now being driven on the same site, while two other favourable bores had been sunk. In addition there s were coalfields round Dobson which had not been developed, and from which ho hoped, before many -months, with the co-operation of the men, to produce coal in huge quantities and ultimately to prove that Dobson would! bo one of the biggest and best, if. not the best coal field in the Dominion. Mr. Lynch explained that provision was made by his company for a share in ffio profits after providing for interest on capital, and that the employees would have direct. representation in tho control of the company's affairs. Tho Dobson Mind's' Union would be asked to accept some, paid-up shares and elect one of their members to a seat on the board, so that ho might have tho fullest, inside knowledge of the company's affairs. It was also intended, out of the assured profits, to allocate a portion towards scholarships and tho educational requirements of the employees' children. Tho day was a red letter ono for Dobson and the Brunner district, which has ynnterial advantage over many other coal fields 'through being so near the port and railage, while on the other hand tho mine is the nearest to Canterbury on the main line.

Murphy was in an awkward predicament. Notwithstanding that he always kept a stock of twelve Handkerchiefs, he was „ using them at such a rate that - he only had one clean one left—and to-morrow was Sunday. However, the chemists were still open, so ho dashed off for a bottlo of Tussicitra—and Tussicura did the trick. At church he sang like n bird.- His cold had completely disappeared, and ho didn't have to use his fiandkerdhief once. It's a wonderful preparation—that Tussicura—and it is still selling at is.
