ONE OP THE BEST YET HELD. By Telegraph—Special Correspondent. Now Plymouth, Juno 10. The Taranaki winter show, which is now being held, was exceedingly well patronised to-day, and the display is considered to bo one of the best yet htld f ' Dairy produce, of course, predominates. Tho judges, Messrs. 1". Thomson and N. Fulton, of the dairy division, remarked that the flavouring of tho butter was good on the whole, and they did not remember such closeness, tho quality.. body nnd texture being of a very Jiicrh standard. Taranaki factories scored four firsts and nleo won nno points prize, Mostertou Dairy Co, (C. Hopkins) iron the Lovoll and Christmas 75-guinea cup (which lias been in. compotition since 1839) for the third year in succcssion, 1918, 1915), l!E(i, so that the trophy now becomes tlieir own property. Mastexton's big wm is a meritorious ono, and there is I'enernl saiiifaction that the Wairaiapa factory's consistency has been well rewarded. There i 9 a serious falling-off in cheeso exhibits, thn bulk of the entries being from factories outside the district. There was general comment lipon the lick of interest displayed by Taranaki factories. According to the judges the outstanding feature of the entries as a whok is the uniform flavour throughout, this being more marked than in former yearn. Body and texture w.erc also of'a hiirh standard in the majority of cases. Thn Hon. W. Noswortliy, Minister of. Agriculturo, who attended tho show, said that ho had attended pome of the biggest winter shows in the Dominion, nnd from the point of view of the exhibits the Taranulti show compared very favourably. In referring to Taranaki's producing capabilities lie said that he had ascertained that tho farmers of Taranaki had put Tig tho splendid performance last year of producing more for export than any other portion of the Dominion. An important quostion to Taranaki farmers. said the Minister, was tho supply of manures, and he- was pleased to say that under the new arrangements wiitli regard to the Nauru Island phosphates there was a good prospect that before another season manure would be more plentiful, and available at a cheaper rate. As Minister -of Agriculture, he also recognised that something must lie done with regard to the limo deposits, and the Government had in view schemes whereby tho lime deposits of the Dominion could be developed to greater advantage. A cottage garden competition, inaugurated for ithe first time this year, proved a great success. The winner was AV. King, of Fitzroy, with 327 points; the runner-up being Cr. E. Eva, with 2D2J points. The mangold field root acreage competition, for which a prize of .48 Cs. was given for tho best half-acre of mangolds, was won by B. P. Longstaff, AV, H. Were being second, nnd J. Lovcridgo third. Tlie carrot field acreage competition was won by AV. H. Bishop, S. Styles 2 and 3. The Taranaki Agricultural Society's swede acreage competition for best crops of not less than two acres was won by AV. H. Were, Evan Jones being second, and J. W. Winfield third. In tho district swede competition the Toko jiettlers- Association (Messrs. Evan John Weir, nnd AV. H. AVer*) were first, the Taratft Purangi Settlers' Association (Messrs. J. AV. AVinfield, ,T. Burgess, It. J. Moroy) being second. Some good ■exhibits were shown in the farm produce and in the schools and home industries sections.
