Mr, Jones said that practically every member of tho committee had voted for the match in Wellington against his convictions because the majority of tho inter-island matches in th& last few years had been played in Wellington. Mr. Piki said he had received a letter from Christchurch in which regret was expressed that the match hnd been aliocated to Wellington, but stating that Christchurch would bo satisfied if a midweek game could be arranged. Mr. Slade said there would bo a difficulty in getting the players to take part in two matches in one week, Mr. l'aton thought the employers should bo considered. Tho players were also against having to play two matches in the week. It could hardly be expected that the players would caro to ask for the extra time off. Mr, Dean stressed the point tlmt tho employers woro faced with an extreme shortage of P.abour nowadays, md tho employers' interests certainly had to bo considered. Mr. Slade said he was also concerned with tho financial aspect of the matter, Ho was not sure that they would not have to go "cap in hand to get the Now Zealand team away to Australia. Mr. Jones considered that from' n financial standpoint the second match | would be a success. He maintained that the match would yield a return of .£300.1 The motion was lost.
