ITALIAN MONEY FOR GERMANY
Tho existence of n regular system of propaganda tending to withdraw Italian capital from the country in spite of all tho laws prohibiting it has .recently been discovered a,t Genoa, states the Rome correspondent of. the London "Observer." Cortain agents have been inviting the holders of small savings to invest them in German. 3} por cent, stock, issued in Berlin before tho war. Owing to tha low nominal value of the mark, the investment present? advantages, and the agonts in question, who arc in league with the banks 'and eichange houses inBale, point out that tho rise in value ot' German stocks and German currency is practically certain. The operation in carried out in the following manner:—The Bale is mado at the rato of_ 25 lire for 100 nominal marks, but as it is not possible to introduce tho scrip into Italy, this is deposited with Swi6s banks, who make a email charge for keeping the stock in custody. In this way mi opportunity is offered to fho Italian investor of escaping the capital tax. The plan is clearly of German origin. The authorities are on tho track of tho organisers, who appear to have had no littlo succfis up to now with their scheme.
