JOCKEYS' DISPUTE
A CONFERENCE TO-DAY. The conference that is to consider the dispute between the Jockeys' Association and the owners of racehorses is to meet in Wellington to-day. The conferenco lias been summoned unuer the Labour Dispute Investigation Act, and tho Govornuient has appointed Mr. P. Holly to ho chairman. The owners of racehorses are to bo represented by Sir George Clifford (Christchurch), Mr. !!. Ilaniion (Auckland), and Mr. J. S. M'Leod (Hastings). The Jockeys' Asso* oiation will be represented by Messrs. C. C. Sheath (Auckland), H. W. Davies (Cliristchurch), and W. A. .Ryan (Auckland). Tho claims that aro being inado by the jockeys against tho owners of racehorses liiclndft a minimum wage of £!i lis. per week (less £1- if hoard and lodgings am provided), the limitation of apprenticeship to three years, a 6cale of racing fees, and preference of employment for members of tho association. Tho association asks that' the provisions of the Workers' Compensation Act shall apply to jockeys. All owners of racchorses in New Zealand have been cited as parties to the dispute.
