MOTION FOR NEW TEIAI/. The Appeal Court was engaged yesterday in hearing nn appeal brought by Grcace'n Joseph Bladt, of Qisbornn. The respondent was William Leonard Butler, also of Gisbornc, On the Benclr were Mr. Justice Edwards, Mr. Justice. Cooper, and Mr. Justice Herdman. ' ■ -' ■ Mr. C. P. Skerrett, K.C., and Hr. H. V. OLeaiy appeared for the appellant. Mr. L. T. -Burnard,- of. Gißbornc, reoresentcil the respondent. Briefly, the .history of the cose was that Butler brought an action for slander aualnst. Black spbseouently moved for a new trial on the grounds that the dttec-t'ons-.given to the .jury werp not correct, ™ thero was no evidence of malice, and that the damages were-excessive.
