SUPPLY OF MANURES
I BONEDUST FROM AUSTRALIA : THE SHORTAGE OF SUPERPHOSPHATES. Tlio. Prime Minister has received a cablegram from the Australian Government stating that the export ot bonmjust is permitted from the Commonwealth. Permits are required, but they arc merely for statistical mirno?es and, are issued in all v cases. l r he " export of superphosphates from Australia is definitely prohibited at present. The demand for bonedint is very keen in New Zealand, and the news that supplies can be obtained from Australia will bo. welcomed by many , farmers. There is reason to believe that the' Commonwealth is able to fill orders for fifis feitilisjr. The shortage of superphosphates is acute, and it appears that there is no early prospect of relief. Referring to this matter yesterday,' the Prime ter said that there was no difficulty about "•ctting phosphate from 'Nauru Island if it were required, even though the details of the agreement had not been completed. But the trouble waa that New Zealand had no facilities for treating the crude rock in largo •quantities. The available plants were small, and would not bo able to handle shipments from Nauru Island in sjich a, manner as to give much relief fe tho farmers. The matter was.receiving his attention.
