THE WAIRARAPA RAILWAY SERVICE
Sir,—Will Sir William H. Herries, Minister of Hallway*, or Mr. 'I'Villy, <Tsnpr.il Manager, plea.se explain why t.he.Wnirarapa passenger service has been flowed to get into such an absolutely disgraceful condition. I wa« n passenger on the train leaving Ijnibton at •i.23 on' January 31. Cb'.ed lime vas n ade lo Upper Hutt, where. IS minutes was vested just shunting a few suburban carriages on to a siding. Then the train very leisurely took its way to Mangaroa, ami n wait of three-quarters to an hour, just because the down lra : n had n issed connection.'. I know it is o" the upgrade to the Summit. At I'rjenn Hush was a Ion? wait. Just fancy In.lding up tlu'. passenger service for poods ferviee; an unneressnry wait at Fcathersion, Fornsido. Wooilsidc, and Matarawa, eventually arrivine Carterton ct. 8.55— one hour late. Why do the travelling public have to put up with such annoyances?
Thirty years ago. with engines of less power, and uncomfortable carriages, the service was much more lo time-table than the present day. The (rains then parsed at. the Summit; later they passed at JCaitokr. Why Mangaroa? It is quite lime iho women of the Wuirnrapa took a hand and .forced things t:> a proper basis. The sup'neness of tho heads of Iho railway' service is beyond all reason regarding the Wairnrajn.—T am. etc., A SUFFERER.
