PUBLIC SERVICE TOURNEY

Pavourod by glorious weather, the fourth annual contest of the l'ublic Service yesterday wa.s a groat success. Thanks to theVonrtosy of the Thorndon and clubs, the tournament took place on their greens, which wore j in first-rato order aud materially assisted in the success of the gathering , . The games wero iloso and exciting and, as usual, tho must fancied teams had their i ups and downs, so that it was not always the favourite rink 'that won tho game. Tho president of the tournament, Colons! Collins, C.M.G., 1.P.0., was unfortunately absent from Wellington, and so could not participate in tho matches, but the lion, secretary, Mr. W. E. Jourdain, who has officiated in this capacity since, tho inception of the tourney, carried out the duties of the position in. a capable manner, and the assistantsecretnry, Mr. G. Scott, also helped to sen' tho games were conducted promptly and satisfactorily. The results were as follow (sixteen beads being played in each game):— ON THOBNnON GEEEN. Section 1. On the Wellington Green tho winner of the third section piaywl tho winner of the fourth section, and a very close and interceding game ensued. In this gaino 21 (heads were played, and the. result was:-Public AVorks, 11); Public Trust, 18. On the Thorndon Green tho winners of the first and second sections, the Internal Affair.* Department and Government Printing Olfico re.speclively, played the deciding game, which was a most exciting one. On tho twentieth head Internal Affairs were 21 to Printing Office IS, and in the last head the latter scored 3, making a liie. In the extra, head Printing Office lay 1, and tho opposing skip failed to dislodge it. The final game of the tournament will be played at the first convenient opportunity, if possible during this week. It will be between tho Public Works Department and tho Government Printing Office.

AaCTORIA CLUB. In tho pennants on Saturday tho Victoria Club was successful in winning against Thorndon by 124 to 103 points, tints being 21 up. Five of the games wero very even, but the sixth, skipped by Jackson for Victoria, finished 31 to 12, 22 points in favour of A'ictoria, virtually winning the match.
