The race win tho usual tlung expected when apprentices are riding. The two favourite were soon toiling , in the rear, and whilo Festival got up on tho fence at the turn, Valley Ease covered a lot of extra ground. Whetoki ied into the straight, lvJiero War Baby slipped up on tine rails and gained several lengths. She won. very decisively from Festival, who finished well. Jvickapoo was third, and then caiue Eeporoa.

There wero several defections from the Hack Hurdles. Garryowen was a good favourite, though he stripped badly. Whiro looked well, as did Hautawa. Pervolo got oil badly, but soon led the field. At tiie halt'-miio Whiro and Vigolo were in behind the leader, who was tiring. Entering the straight Lepanto and Hushabye Whiro, and tho trio jumped the last fenco together.
