"RATS!"
REMARKABLE STOR.Y FROM A CATHEDRAL CITY. Rats in Inrgo 'numbers recently invaded one of the most fashionable Thoroughfares in Peterborough, nnd in cflnnection therewith one of the residents tells a most extraordinary story. The dismantling of the Grand Theatre, Peterborough, coincidcd with a remarkable' migration of Tats into several residences in tho Rroadway, where these troublecome animals had not been seen for many years There was" some doubt at D'e time whether tin rat raid was solely due to the dislocation of the theatre interior, although if,had been known to successive manaconionfs that rats were there. But additional. colour was lent to the aff.i'r .by the extraordinary story told at a house- wliero musical, evening's are the vogue on one or two night? in tho week. One night, hardly had the opening bars of a dreamy waltz been wafted on the still night air by a clever lady pianist, when a. casual glance out of <1. window facing the lawn revealed several darl-. objects in tho light of tho harvest full moon. '.Closer observation revealed the fact that tliev were four rat* gambolling to the rhythm of the music. They seemed unite oblivious of tapir surroundings, for flic enchanting music no doubt reminded them of former days when nightly the orchestra en1 ' i" ih'v. Whether if was the old-fashioned quadpile, or tho new-fangled fox-trot or bnnny ling, the rats at intervals raised themselves 011 their hind legs and drank in the intoxicating strains. Alas! at (b- climax of the wait?, one of the gentlemen visitors sitting near the open sneezing, and the rats hastily scampered from the lawn, nnd the evening's entertainment was abruptly terminated.
