TAXI-CAB FATALITY
DETECTIVE'S WIFE KILLED
RUN OVER IN COURTENAY PLACE At about 2.2!) p.m. yesterday, Mrs. Black, wife of Detective Black, was killed in Courteimy Place lhiont?li being knocked over by a taxi-cab. It appears that it was Detective Mack's afternoon off, and lie stayed at. home to look after the children, leaving Mrs. Mack to go shopping. According to an eye-witness, Mrs. Black was walking from the direction of Majoribanks Street to the waiting shed at Courtenay Place, while the tnxi (No. 160-t), driven by Bennett: Williams, who was wearing the bailee of the relumed soldiers, came down Kent Terrace, and as Mrs. Black was nearing one of the tram poles she was struck by the taxi and was carried along for about 12ft.; then as she lay on the ground two wheels, front and back, passed over the body. Mrs. Ulacl; was removed to Hie Hospital as cmkktv us po-sible. but it Is believed that' death was almost instantaneous. ller skull was fractured and she suffered other injuries, the extent of which were not known to the notice last evening. None of those seen last night cared to express an oninion as lo the speed of the taxi and (he observance of the rule of the road, in view of tlio inquest, which will be held as soon as possible. Much sympathy is felt, for Detective Black, who is a very popular officer.
