ASSISTED EMIGRANTS FOR OVERSEAS
A BIG SCIIG.MR LAUNCHED. (liec. November 7, 0.50 a.m.) London, November 4. Tf was announced at a conference at the Colonial Office that the National ](e----liet' I'und had placed ,£250,000 at the disposal of the Overseas Settlement Committee for the assistance of persons who have suffered hardship in the war, and who desired to einigate to the Dominions. Another quarter of a million will bo available later if required. The dominions' representative;, have agreed that the money will be used to pay railway and shipping fares, and buy outfits of olothiii!!. and provide maintenance until employment is found. Applicants who will be mostly persons seeking employment. must be approved by the High Commissioner or Agent-General. The scheme will operate immediately.
Mr. Ainer.v (tinder-Secretary) stated' that he was examining the whole question of the inadequacy of. steamer berths for the dominions.—United Service.
