LAWN TENNIS
Tho Wellington Tennis Club held the opening of the season on Saturday,, and in spite of the cold southerly blowing there was a largo attendance of members and friends. In the absence of tho president (Mr. Harold Brown) _ Mr. H. Henderson performed the opening ceremony, and welcomed the guests and wished! the club every success during tho forthcoming season. Afternoon tea was then provided, and all present spent a very, enjoyable afternoon. BROUGHAM HILL CLUB. , On Saturday afternoon the Brougham Hill Club held a very oujoyablo "Yankeo" handicap tournament on their courts. Sixty-live members took part. It was a very close contest, and some excellent tennis was witnessed. At the close four ladies, Misses Tracy, Marryatt, James and. Baxter, were left in tho ladies' game. Miss Tracy, who played a vory good game, triumphed in the play-off. Nino players, Messrs. L. V, Fisher, W. E. Howe, N. Goldie, G. R. Williams, D. France,.Hardie, M'lnnes, W. Fisher and C. Wyatt, wero left in the men's competition. The play-off resulted in a win for C. Wyatt, who played a sound game throughout.
