HOCKEY REFEREES
A' RECENT INCIDENT DISCUSSED,

At a meetinff of the Management Committee to-night, the New Zealand Hockey Association had betoro it a'lengthy letter from the Feilding Association protesting against the' action of the Manawatu Association in endeavouring to have the decision of the council regarding the granting of permission to I'eilding to form an association rescinded. In connection with the registration of the l-'eilding Association it was decided to write to the Wanganui, Feeding, and Manawatu Associations, explaining the resolution passed nt the recent extraordinary meeting of the council, and suggesting that n confercncfi of delegates of the association mentioned should be held, the association making various suggestions on the matter '■ •Resolutions passed by the Cunterbur> Association in regard to the refereeing of Mr. Kent in the Auckland-Canterbury mntel] were received. The chairman (Mr. H. S. J. Goodwin) pointed out that the matter must be discussed in nil absolutely impartial manner. The referee had been agreed to b.v the Xew Zealand Association and his decisions must be regarded as final. The matter must bo reviewed entirely on its merits. ; Mr. A. W. Dunklcy said that tho whole matter was one which should be thoroughly 'thrashed out, and lie considered that the meeting should adjourn slid discuss it at another meeting. Mr. ]). Snell expressed the opinion that in consequence of what had happened at the match, which was unheard of in the history of hockey,- a big set-back had been given to hockey,., and something should be done in the .matter. Mi\ E. Browning said that the association should at lenst consider the■ suggestion f of appointing outsider referees for such matches. After further discussion it.was decided on the motion of Mr. Dunklcy, to hold, over consideration of the letter, pending a report from the Canterbury Ass«''ialion, under a certain rule of the Xiw Zealand Association.
