NOTES AND COMMENTS
(By C4lencoe.)
Pine weather is promised for the Napier Park Meeting. The course is in splendid order, and the company, though not first class, should be able to provide interesting racing. Whiro, the top weight in 'the HackHurdles, looks fresh and well, Imd should race prominently. He will be ridden by F. Cress, while A. M'Donald will have the mount on Con, who is reported to be back to form. The Tried Handicap field includes the well-bred Hepta, who" is by Demosthenes from Heavenly Twin. Another boomed one is Royal Moment, who is owned in Wairoa. The latter is a swallow-catcher on the tracks, and may bo favourite. None of the runners in tfie Ahuriri Hack Handicap are as well seasoned as Red Signal, and she should sea the distance well. Makepeace can go fast, as oan Lord Jfujkerry.
After a splendid gallop over seven furlongs yesterday mornine, Maioha (R. Reed) is sure of plenty of support for the Park Stakes. The Speaker' will also be in the market, and, to a lesser degree, Lovematch. A win for the latter would not mean a penally in the New Zealand Cup. . Tessn.res, a full-sister to Crenides, is top weight in the Juvenile Handicap. Sho lias had a race, which is a lot to her advantage, but she will require to ho smart to defeat Fortune Teller, whom Trenthahi track watchers say is hotter than Weary Willie, the runner-up in the Avrcidale Stakes. Carillon may be a hot order in the County Hack Handicap. He showed winning form over thw distance at Dan-, nevirke. nml the opposition is very weak, The Railway Handicap will be the biggest puzzle for hackers. Croesus, the fop weight, always laces well fresh, but Crenides ha? a lot of weight for n tbree-yr-ar-uld so oarlv in the season.' Tigri-(i'-a, looks on the jolly side, and Lionskin' was badly knocked about on the trip from Gishorne. The favourite may bo llctaim, who looks really well. Hi's stable companion, Dribble, has also been gallnpinir frejjy on the tracks. Ahika's name should not appear in the acceptances for the Horowhenua Cup Vance, also, did not accept for the meeting.
