$ f ATHLETIC V. PONEKE TO-DAY. The third round.of the Senior Championship will open to-day with tho meeting of the Athletic'and Poneko teams: When the teams met last, on June 28, Poneke, after scoring fivo tries to two, were beaten (20-17) bv a wonderful goalkicking performance by Griffin, the Athletic full-back. The game to-day is ex-, pected to be well worth seeing. Mr. A. C. Kitto will bo tho referee. The cur-tain-raiser may bo the fourth-grado final, as Oriental (unbeaten) and Petone (one loss) are two of the leading teams, Mascot being level with Petone for second place. At Petone, Selwyn meet the local senior fifteen. Oriental meet Hutt at Lower Hutt in the first senior match played by the Hutt Club for many years. Tho Petone fifth-class team for to-day is:—Wilson,- Pawson, Gardiner, Usmar, Jowett, Henwood, Warden, Nankivell, Locke, Goble, Clarke, Watson, Lawrie, Parraut, Watson. SOME MATCHES CANCELLED. The' following matches will not bo played 10-day:— Junior.—Poneke v. War Exponses. Third.—Railway Battalion v. Hutt. Fourth.—Mascot .v. Poneko; Y.M.C.A. v. Banks College. INTER-COLLEGIATE TOURNEY. The inter-college Rugby football matches aro to be played at Athletic Park on August 25, 27, and 29. On tho : 25th, AYanganui meet Wellington; on the 27th, Christ's College ploy Wanganui, and on the" 1 29 th, Wellington and Christ's College will meet.
