$ NORTHERN TERRITORY. NATIVES. For somo time past the nitiable condition of the aboriginal inhabitants of the lower portion of tho Northern Territory, between the Queensland border, Oodnadatta railway, the east-west railway, and Eyre Peninsula, has been exercising tho minds of a number of scientific men in Adelaide. The upshot has been that Dr. Herbert Basedow, ex-Proteety of Aborigines in 1 lie Northern Territory., and ex-Assistant (government Geologist in South Australia,- will load an expedition to medically chart a specified area of of country. There aTe a nunilier in the country to be traversed, including several in the south-western corner of Queensland, which were 'possiblv connected with the Leielvhardt ex--pedition.
The natives are rapidly succumbing to the ravages of venereal disease and tuberculosis in the country to be examined. These aro to be medically attended, and this is the primary object of the expedition, which is to be composed of four voluntary workers, led by Or. Basedow. , A number of pastoralists •have contributed to the cost, the amount of lyhicli will be subsidised pound for pound l>y fie Government.
