BELATED REPORT OF TRAGIC OCCURRENCE. Paris, June 4 (delayed). As a result of the panic iu a picture theatre at Valence; 131 arc dead and hundreds injured. Tim scene was appalling. There were 4000 present, mid the fire was trivial, but the • stampede terrifyiiiff. : Piles of etrnggliiij; women and children were chuked in the turnings of the staircases.
The Jiishop of Valence was present, and tried to calm the audience. Eventually he ordered'the orchestra lo play the "Marseillaise," which gradually allayed j he panic, , but death..hud done its ghast-ly-work. ..'The. iupii in.the. audience behaved we'll, and helped in the work of rescue.
